• In April 2001, Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility released the results of a survey of Environmental Police Officers in Massachusetts. The survey indicated that the police force charged with on-the-ground enforcement of environmental laws is severely compromised by underfunding and poor management. The Environmental League of Massachusetts has documented the resource needs in the Environmental Police Force. We have included a request for funding for this shortfall in our annual Green Budget.

• Bush Plans to Shift Some EPA Enforcement to States
  Washington Post article reporting a Bush administration plan to advance a plan to cut federal environmental enforcement operations and to shift resources to the states despite mounting evidence that many states are unable or unwilling to vigorously enforce federal environmental laws.
