Public Lands Preservation Act Status and Action Needed Hearing The PLPA (S. 542) will be the subject of a hearing at the state house on Monday, July 30 at 1:00 p.m. before the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources, and Agriculture. Action If your senator or representative is a co-sponsor, pick up the phone and thank him or her for co-sponsoring. If your legislator's name is not on the list, pick up the phone and ask him or her to support the bill. In either case, ask the legislator, if he or she will testify at the July 30 hearing in favor of the bill. If you have not received a response, yes or no, by the first week in July, contact your legislator again and ask for an answer. Testifying is simple. The legislator walks into the hearing room, as a legislative courtesy is recognized out of order, says as little or as much as he or she wants in support of the bill, and leaves. Sometimes the legislator is not there long enough to sit down. It may not seem like much, but it is important in demonstrating depth of support, so the leadership will bring the bill up for a vote. Come to the hearing to show support. Return to Previous Page Return to Parks Protection Package Home Page Return to ELM Home Page |
