- ELM Carcinogen Report--July 2001
The American Cancer Society estimates that 31,300 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in Massachusetts this year. This report takes a look at the publicly available data on the use of carcinogens in Massachusetts which is available through the Toxics Use Reduction Act. Our analysis of this data revealed that the use and release of carcinogens in the commonwealth decreased from 1994 to 1998. There is still, however, over 445 million pounds of carcinogens used in Massachusetts, therefore there is still much work to do on this issue.
