ELM Action Fund Campaign and Advocacy Fellows

The Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund is looking for college students, high school seniors, and recent graduates to be part of our Campaign and Advocacy Fellows program. Join us and help elect environmental champions, advance strong environmental policy, and build the power of the environmental community in Massachusetts.

Our fellowship program consists of the three sessions described below. Applicants may apply for multiple sessions. A minimum 10 week commitment of 15-20 hours per week is required but exact start and end dates are flexible. Fellows that do exemplary work will have preference over new applicants if they wish to stay or return for a later session.

ELM and the ELM Action Fund are following public health guidance as COVID-19 continues to evolve. The in-person components of our Fellowships will depend on that guidance.

SESSION 1 – February through May

  • Location: 90% ELM’s Boston office, 10% campaign work across MA
  • Duties: 80% campaign research and advocacy, 10% in-office campaign work, 10% in-district campaign work (door knocking, phone banking, etc)
  • Some nights and weekends encouraged
  • 15 – 20 hours/ week, $15/ hour or academic credit

SESSION 2 – June through August

  • Location: 75% ELM’s Boston office, 25% campaign work across MA
  • Duties: 75% advocacy, data management, research, and in-office campaign work, 25% in-district campaign work (door knocking, phone banking, etc)
  • Some nights and weekends required
  • 15 – 20 hours/ week, $15/ hour

SESSION 3 – September through November

  • Location: 50% ELM’s Boston office, 50% campaign work across MA
  • Duties: 50% advocacy, data management, research, and in-office campaign work, 50% in-district campaign work (door knocking, phone banking, etc)
  • Some nights and weekends required
  • 15 – 20 hours/ week, $15/ hour or academic credit

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable talking to voters on the phone and in person
  • Strong research, data management, and note taking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Commitment to environmental advocacy Self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively
  • Commitment to understanding racial justice and equity’s vitality to addressing climate change
  • Community outreach or political campaign experience a plus
  • Customer service or similar experience a plus
