Three experienced companies just submitted proposals to fulfill the state’s groundbreaking requirement that utilities include offshore wind power as part of their energy mix. Ørsted, Vineyard Wind, and Deepwater Wind are in the running to secure contracts and start constructing large-scale, renewable and reliable power generators. We need these sources of carbon-free electricity more than ever, as fossil fuel plants retire across New England.
Now that the proposals are in, they need to be reviewed quickly so the process can continue moving forward. Massachusetts can build the nation’s first utility-scale offshore wind farm and our residents can benefit from the jobs that go along with it. If we delay, the jobs and other economic benefits that go along with it could go to other states.
