In the eighth session of our “Wednesday Webinars” series–“Perspectives on Climate Policy” we were joined by Congressman Jim McGovern, State Representative Tom Golden, and Quincy City Council President Nina Liang.
This session highlighted how critical and interconnected these levels of government are. The three panelists continually referenced how they work with and are supported by their counterparts throughout local, state, and federal government.
Among many other issues, Council President Liang discussed her efforts to build climate resiliency in her community and the importance of transitioning to electric buses as part of an accessible transit system. Chairman Golden highlighted the job growth and economic benefits Massachusetts stands to gain if we increase our clean energy resources including offshore wind. And, Congressman McGovern impressed that we must permanently protect our natural resources through the Land and Water Conservation Fund. All three emphasized the importance of citizen engagement and advocacy for a way out of this economic crisis that is good for both our people and environment.
