Dr. Gaurab Basu

Dr. Gaurab Basu is a Primary Care Physician and the founding Co-Director of the Center for Health Equity Education and Advocacy (CHEEA) at Cambridge Health Alliance. He is also an instructor at Harvard Medical School’s Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, and faculty at Harvard’s FXB Center for Health and Human Rights. With a background in human rights and global health, Gaurab is an expert in equitable medical education and the impacts of climate change on health. He has held positions including Monitor and Evaluation Coordinator at Last Mile Health and a Culture of Health Leader at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Gaurab has received multiple awards in medical education including the Charles McCabe Faculty Prize in Excellence and the inaugural Equity, Social Justice and Advocacy award at Harvard Medical School, and the Union of Concerned Scientists’ 2020 Science Defender Award. He has also been credited for his academic work and was published in Academic Medicine, PLOS Medicine, and Annals of Internal Medicine.

Gaurab has been nationally recognized for his work in climate change and health equity and was named to the 2021 Grist 50 list of climate leaders. He received his Masters degree at John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and his MD at University of Vermont College of Medicine and completed his residency at Cambridge Health Alliance specializing in internal medicine.
