Steve is a medical oncologist and former pharmaceutical industry executive. In November 2018, Steve retired as Vice President and Head, Precision Medicine at Bristol-Myers Squibb. Previously, Steve served in leadership roles at Merck Research Laboratories and AstraZeneca for oncology clinical research and drug development worldwide. Steve is currently a consultant, and he serves on several Biotech advisory boards.
Prior to joining industry, Steve held academic appointments at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and the U.S. Public Health Service School of Medicine. He received his M.D. and Internal Medicine training from the University of Illinois, Chicago and his Medical Oncology training at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. Steve has authored over 60 peer reviewed publications and book chapters, and he is a co-author on one patent. He is the 2014 recipient of the University of Illinois College of Medicine Distinguished Alumnus Award.
Since his retirement, Steve has turned his attention to the environment and sustainability. He currently serves as a Trustee of Sustainable Princeton, and he is a member of the Stockbridge Green Communities Committee and the Advisory Council of the Environmental League of Massachusetts. Steve is active with and contributes to several national and local environmental organizations focusing on solutions for the harmful impact of climate change and fossil fuels on human health and cancer outcomes. He is a co-founder of OUCH (Oncologists United for Climate and Health).
Steve lives in Stockbridge, MA and Princeton, NJ with his wife. Their son is a pilot living in Reno, NV. Steve enjoys sailing, hiking, bicycling and traveling. He is passionate about the environment, sustainable and healthy nutrition, and educational opportunities for the underserved.
