DONG Energy and Eversource are teaming up on a joint venture to develop Bay State Wind. This proposed off-shore wind farm would be located approximately 15 to 25 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard, in an area that has the potential to develop at least 2,000 megawatts of electricity, enough to power one million homes.
The time is right for offshore wind, and for this project. Technology improvements and large-scale developments have driven down offshore wind costs dramatically in Europe — 60 percent over the last ten years. Additionally, the recent comprehensive energy legislation in Massachusetts included a first-of-its-kind mandate to purchase 1,600 MW of offshore wind power over the next decade.
