January 29, 2026 – The Green Budget Coalition responded to the Governor’s FY27 budget proposal, expressing concern over proposed cuts to key environmental and energy agencies and calling on the Legislature to prioritize sustained investment in climate, conservation, and public health programs across the Commonwealth.
With our environmental challenges growing amidst the absence of federal leadership, state investment is more critical than ever. The Green Budget Coalition is disappointed to see significant cuts to environmental and energy agencies in the Governor’s budget proposal, even as the overall state budget continues to grow.
These programs are vital to meeting the needs of Massachusetts residents: keeping our air and water clean, protecting public health, and conserving our valuable natural resources. We look forward to working with the Legislature to advocate for a FY27 budget package that provides the necessary funding for this essential and broadly supported work.
The Green Budget Coalition is a coalition of ten statewide organizations dedicated to securing funding for critical climate and conservation work in the state budget. Coalition members include the Environmental League of Massachusetts, the Appalachian Mountain Club, the Charles River Watershed Association, the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions, Mass Audubon, the Massachusetts Land Trust Coalition, the Massachusetts Organization of State Engineers and Scientists, the Massachusetts Rivers Alliance, the Nature Conservancy, and the Trustees.
