Erin Smith brings a decade of experience in the clean energy industry, where she has worn a variety of hats over the years. From navigating New England’s wholesale energy markets to implementing federal transmission planning programs to diving deep into advanced energy technologies, she’s done it all.
Before joining ELM, Erin served as a Project Manager in the transmission division of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Grid Deployment Office (GDO). While there, she oversaw million-dollar federal grants to support states to modernize the electric grid, and she managed the launch of reforms to accelerate federal review and permitting of transmission lines. Previously, Erin served as a Principal Analyst at Sustainable Energy Advantage, a boutique energy consulting firm where she tracked energy market and policy developments in the Northeastern US and forecasted renewable energy credit (REC) prices. Finally, Erin spent four years at the Bipartisan Policy Center, a top think tank in DC, where she successfully advocated for increased federal funding for advanced energy technologies, drafting legislative text that was later included in federal appropriations bills.
Erin holds a Master of Science in Technology and Policy from MIT, and a B.S. in Environmental Science from UC Berkeley. She currently lives in Boston with her partner, with grand ambitions to adopt a dog in the near future.
