- Borderland State Park – “As a girl grew up biking and horseback riding through Borderland with my parents. I participated as a Junior Ranger and fished. Now as a mom, I love sharing the history, the trails, and scenery with my daughters. We frequent often and know the rangers and naturalist on a first name basis. Paul, Buck, and Eleanor are fantastic. We fish. We hike to our favorite spots. We climb trees. We sled. We share all the things I did as a child. ” – Christine W.
- Belle Isle Marsh – “This precious open space is home to many species of animals and plants that otherwise would have no home. In a time when every bit of open space seems to be used for profitable real estate, the Belle Isle is a rare place. East Boston especially lacks public land and the people in the community care for and visit the Belle Isle Marsh daily. It is a humbling experience to be so close to such a treasure. ” – Heather O.
- Blue Hills Reservation – “I went to the Blue Hills with my college dorm. It was the perfect location for an easy hike that people of all athletic abilities could partake it, plus we could take the T so we could bring a big group. Another great place to get outside close to the city! – Kristine B.
- Charles River Reservation – “Every fall, thousands of people gather in the Charles River Reservation near the Weeks footbridge for RiverSing, a celebration of the Charles River and the autumnal equinox with the Revels. It is an extraordinary display of community and culture. Together we sing folk tunes old and new, and get lost in the music. Without public parks to provide the space for celebration, RiverSing would not be possible. Especially in an urban environment, it is essential that we continue to steward our parklands to make them more active, attractive and accessible to all.” – Neil B.
