While this budget makes important investments in environmental agencies and programs, particularly in response to the Roadmap law, additional funding is sorely needed for our environmental agencies to fulfill their increasing responsibilities. This is a critical year on our path to achieving the bold net-zero mandate. The $2.3M allocated for the Roadmap law’s implementation will be crucial to ensuring we meet critical deadlines to prevent the worst impacts of the climate crisis. The new offshore wind office will also play a large role in reducing emissions and transitioning to a clean energy future. Offshore wind will be the linchpin in Massachusetts’ decarbonization strategy and provide tremendous economic opportunity. We appreciate the Baker Administration’s leadership and investment and look forward to continuing to work with the Legislature to strengthen the budget during the process.
